 The
Snake Light is a standard lamp, designed to operate as a personal reading
light and/or mood lightingIt is made of stainless steel which has been electro polished. and a combination of opaque and translucent polypropylene. The lamp arches behind the seated reader, shedding light on the held page without illuminating too much else of the room so as to not distract the reader I was taken by the sinuousity of the cobra in the ready strike position. It has nothing to do with the light, but more to do with the anticipation and tension of the form, reflecting in a physical sense the anticipation and tension which can be felt by the reader while engaged in exploring and unravelling a new novel or a new concept contained in a book This piece is representative of my design process. >First comes the need or identification of the function.>Then the search for a suitable form, which may or may not spring from or reflect the function. >Finally the resolution of the two with the aim of maintaining the integrity of the form without compromising its function, hopefully to produce a financially viable object |
