Fill-in is a modular room divider. But most people who’ve seen it call it a shelving unit. It is also made to be a wine rack. Each module can hold up to 16 bottles.

Each module is made from layers of 3mm mdf laminated together on a mould for 3 hours. To make them all the same radius, the length of time and room temperature is very important. Each laminated piece is then cut to size on a jig. The three pieces are then glued together. The edges are rounded with router and finally painted with acrylic metallic paint.

My aim is to create furniture that is multi-functional and adaptable in both a physical and in a social sense. My furniture is based upon simple principles of geometry, whereby all my pieces stem from the same circle form. By using the same arc in different positions, I seek a visual language that links multiple individual pieces collectively.

I started with a circle and played around with arcs. I use CAD to develop the design and then I build some models. From the models, I redesign and refine the object before starting on the final piece.
