She developed a wide body of work in the 1920’s and 30’s ranging from minimal production pieces to highly decorative and beautifully lacquered one-off art pieces. Her work dealt both with production problems and understanding skilled trades and working with her hands.

She completed these tasks quite successfully and I consider her achievement to be the essence of a complete design ethic.

The design and construction of this desk and chair has evolved from similar furniture made in my lnvermay factory.

For this setting, more emphasis has been placed on the veneered top and drawer frame, to bring to life a piece of furniture that is uncluttered but displays a moderate amount of decoration.

The concentration in my factory now is away from mechanical fitting and more towards traditional construction techniques especially with regard to drawers and carcases. I prefer to work with veneers and love the clean lines that Tas Oak (eucalypt) seems to demand. I am also intrigued by the contrast in grain pattern and colour within the same species as shown on the desktop.
