The table and chairs were designed to celebrate new STEPS Employment & Training contracts. The table top slides open to reveal recesses for champagne a glasses..

I wanted to create a smooth flowing theme for my round table and chair design and achieved this by taking the top right hand side of the logo and turning it 45 degrees to the left. The boat school uses celerytop pine for boat construction and stainless steel for boat fittings, hence my use of these materials. I also wanted to reflect the logo’s main colour, yellow through the use of celerytop pine.

The 2 halves of the tabletop are made up of 25mm mdf veneered with celery top pine. The inner edge of one half is covered with red acrylic and the other half with blue felt.. These two colours are represented in the STEPS logo. The tabletop is attached with Hettich slides to the base, which houses the vacuum formed Styrofoam recesses for glasses and bottle. The recess for the bottle can be filled with ice cubes, and it has provision for draining the ice water away afterwards

The table and chair legs are made up of varying sizes of hand curved stainless steel tubes, plug welded together to give a step effect.

For complex pieces such as this, I make a full scale-working model to develop the design.
